Central Baltic project SMART E67 received a significant acknowledgement from the NGO “Latvian design, building and construction council” who awarded 1st Prize in the new engineering structures of 2018 contest to SMART67 road ITS design and implementation.

On 6 March, the local radio of Åland broadcasted two short interviews with four people involved in the Central Baltic programme. In the first interview, Linnéa Johansson, head of Department for Trade and Industry at the Government of Åland, gives a boader view of what CB means to Åland.

The fourth call for project applications closed on 16 November 2018. After that, assessments have been ongoing at the Joint Secretariat, and on 5-6 March the Steering Committee, consisting of the Central Baltic Member State representatives, took funding decisions on both regular and small projects.

Information about the SmartLog project – an Interreg Central Baltic programme project about logistics management – has been spread to 35 countries in Europe. That is the result from having gotten attention in the Assembly of the European Regions network, which is an organisation for 35 countries and 15 interregional organisations on regional development.

The European Commission is launching a call for proposals for overcoming legal obstacles in border regions as one of the actions proposed in the Communication "Boosting growth and cohesion in EU border regions".
 
With b-solutions, DG REGIO and AEBR offer the possibility to find a solution to concrete obstacles to cross-border cooperation and to contribute finding innovative policies to foster a more and better connected EuropeanUnion.

The new year started with a great news! 

The programme has received additional funding from an ERDF reserve originally held by Finland and Estonia for ENI CBC programmes.

The next Monitoring Committee taking place in April will decide on what to do with the extra funds, but it is likely that a 5th call for application will open next autumn.

The Swedish Institute recently launched a new call for seed funding for cooperation projects in the Baltic Sea region. They seek to strengthen Sweden’s relations and develop cooperation with the countries around the Baltic Sea.

Annual Event - Reflections

On November 14 and 15 the Central Baltic Programme celebrated its annual event. The main theme this year was “Finding Synergies in Cross-border Cooperation Projects”.

Day one opened with a “project village" networking event at which over 75 representatives from 45 projects shared information about their projects and achievements.
