Ålands Radio interviewing about Steering Committee meeting in Mariehamn

Thursday, March 7, 2019 - 13:16
On 6 March, the local radio of Åland broadcasted two short interviews with four people involved in the Central Baltic programme. In the first interview, Linnéa Johansson, head of Department for Trade and Industry at the Government of Åland, gives a boader view of what CB means to Åland.

In the second interview, the reporter asked if there is a risk that different regions try to focus more on projects located in their own region, and the interviewees  Merike Niitepõld, the head of Managing Authority of  CB, and two of the CB Steering Committee Swedish delegates: Filip Reinhag from Gotland Region and Gustav Hemming from Stockholm Region shared their thoughts on this topic and on the value of cross-border cooperation. They also talked about the CB projects active on Åland that they had the opportunity to get familiar with during the project visit organised in connection with the Steering Committee meeting.

The interviews, altgough only available in Swedish, are valuable as they provide an excellent example of what cross-border cooperation is about and how the CB programme is working for quality, results and change in the regions.

As the programme Contact Point on Åland, I felt very proud when I listened to the broadcast. This is exactly what I am working for: cooperation, regional development and getting committed people to meet and to network.

To all ongoing projects keep up the good work, and to all 16 new projects - welcome!
