This year, the Europen Cooperation day will be celebrated jointly in Latvia and Estonia where two Programmes joined their forces - Estonia-Latvia and Central Baltic programme.
Estonia and Latvia are proud of their cultural heritage and the two programmes organize the Heritage Road Trip. The trip has been awarded the label of the European Year of Cultural Heritage!
From 4 locations - Rīga (Latvia), Pärnu (Estonia), Tartu (Estonia) and Alūksne (Latvia) - will start 4 thematic routes, that will bring participants on buses through the thematic sites.
Hansa Route - starts in Rīga and will stop in Straupe, the smallest Hanseatic town, and Cēsis, where the guests will take part in an authentic Medieval Feast.
Coastal Route - starts in Pärnu and will stop at the Estonian-Latvian coastline in stretches between Häädemeste - Kabli in Estonia and between Ainaži - Salacgrīva for a little hike on the Coastal hiking route. Livonian lunch is planned in "Pils Ķēķis", in Valmiera.
Green Route - starts in Tartu and will stop in Sinialliku for a little hike on green ways developed within Green Railways project and will continue to Valka old train station Walk II for trying out railbikes. The Livonian picnic will be provided by Old Post Station Straupe Caterer.
Industrial Route - starts in Alūksne and from Stāmeriene till Gulbene participants will travel on the steam train and will visit Gulbene Depo. Another stop will be at the Vijciems Coan Drying Facility and will continue with the Livonian picnic in Valka.
All 4 routes will end in Sangaste castle in Estonia for a joint celebration together with ethnic groups - Livi folk group "Kāndla", Suiti men's bagpipe group "Suitu dūdenieki", Seto Leelo Choir "Helmekaala" and Kihnu women dance group "Pitsid paistavad". All together they represent 4 ethnic regions of Estonia and Latvia, where 3 of these regions are protected by UNESCO and all 4 regions in UNESCO tourism project are developing joint tourism offer.
